Overview of Genting Highlands, Malaysia

Hailing itself as the City of Entertainment, Genting Highlands – situated within the Titiwangsa Mountains – is a popular holiday destination for those who want to enjoy a distinctly non-tropical, fresh climate. To get to Malaysia’s most kitsch hill resort, which features a casino, high-rise hotels and theme parks, it’s a 45-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur. With temperatures no higher than 25 degrees Celsius, this hillside station is a frequent vacation spot for locals and weekend warriors from Singapore. Its attractions include theme parks, golf courses, shopping malls and the wildly popular Casino de Genting. It’s distinctly tourist-tacky but at night the sparkling lights and the crowds make this hill station a good place to have a roaring good time. Over the years Genting has also played host to a slew of international acts that range from Boyz II Men to Leona Lewis at the Arena of Stars.
